groupâ€. change the “group:†to “channeladminâ€. “channelâ€. select the channel you want to give this key permission to administer.we will select the “jagchannel†created earlier. enter a description. i will enter“channel adminâ€. now click the “create†button to generate the privilege key. nowclick the “copy to clipboard†button. click the “close†button. click the “closeâ€button when the keys have been created. we now need to properly forward our teamspeakports. ports 9987, 10011, and 30033 need to be forwarded to the teamspeak server. everyrouter type will have a slightly different set of steps to forward a port to your computer.you can get a step by step guide for your router type for teamspeak from portforward.comyou will need to find the ip address of the
computer with your teamspeak server runningon it. click on the windows “start†button, “all programsâ€, “accessoriesâ€, andthen select “command promptâ€. a new windows command prompt window will open. type in “ipconfigâ€,and press enter. you may have more than one network adapter listed. if you are connectingwith a cable to your computer, it will show under “ethernet adapter local area connectionâ€.if you are connecting wirelessly it will show “wireless lan adapter wireless network connection:â€.i am connecting with a network cable. my ip address is “192.168.0.3â€. the “defaultgateway†is the ip address of your router. write down both of these numbers for use settingup the port forwarding later. open a web browser like “internet explorerâ€. in the “addressbar†enter “portforward.comâ€, and press
enter. scroll down. select your router type.you can find your router type by looking at the sticker on the bottom of the router. ihave a “dgn2000â€. click the “click here to skip this advertisement...†link. nowwe need to find and select “teamspeak 3 serverâ€. follow the directions to forwardthe teamspeak ports to your server. unless your router supports dhcp reservations, orthe ability to assign the same ip address to the same computer every time it connects, your ip address will change over time. this will prevent teamspeak from working untilyou go back and change the ip address in your router to forward to the new address. noweven though your setup with be slightly different. i am going to go through the setup on my routerso you can get an idea of what to expect.
this is not the steps you will take. you needto follow the document at portforward.com. we’ll open a web browser like internet explorer.in the address bar we’ll enter the ip address of the router, which for me is “192.168.0.3â€.i need to first setup the new service.add custom service. the name will be “ts9987â€.we’ll select tcp/udp for the port type. the start and end ports will both be “9987â€.click the “apply†button. by default teamspeak uses ports “9987â€, “10011â€, and “30033â€.we just created the first one here. i’ll go through and create the two more for theother ports. now that i’ve created the 3 different services, which are basically mappingthis name to this port. i need to create the firewall rules that send those ports frommy outside router ip address to my inside
server. click the “firewall rulesâ€. underinbound services click “addâ€. click the drop down for services. i’ll see my 3 newservices listed here. i need to go through the same steps for all three.select the “serviceâ€.the action is “always allowâ€. send to lan server. this is the ip address of theserver we got earlier. in my case it’s 192.168.0.3. then i’ll click “applyâ€. now i’llrepeat on the next two ports. now here we can see my 3 new rules for teamspeak. ports9987, 10011, and 30033 they are always allowed. it’s going to send that traffic when ithits the outside to my internal ip address of “192.168.0.3â€, which is my teamspeakserver. after all this, it’s very important, you have to click “applyâ€. for other peopleto be able to connect to this new teamspeak
server we need to find out what the ip addressof our router is. users will connect to this ip address, where the router will forwardthe traffic onto your server. right-click on the teamspeak server icon in the systemtray, and select “wan ipâ€. below request it will list the ip address of your router.if you left click on this one time it will copy it to your clipboard. make note of thisto be able to give it to your users. when your router is rebooted it may pick up a newip address. you will need to check this and give out the updated address if it changes.you could use dyndns or another utility to monitor and update your routers ip addressas it changes. this will allow you to create a name like “myteamspeakserver.mydomain.comâ€.the dyndns service will monitor your ip and
update it as it changes. this is much easierfor users to remember than the ip address. i will create a video on dyndns at a laterdate and link to it here. you have to log in and confirm your account every few monthsor it will turn off. this is very easy though. we could now just connect to the teamspeakserver, but i will show you how to test the ports to make sure they are forwarding properly.this is useful in determining whether the root of the problem is the port forwarding,or an issue with the teamspeak client configuration. there is software to do this, but it is realeasy to do from a windows command line. click the “windows†start button, “all programsâ€,“accessoriesâ€, and then select “command promptâ€. by default windows 7 does not installthe telnet client. to perform the following
test you will need to install the telnet client.in the open command prompt type in “telnetâ€. if it says “telnet is not recognized asan internal or external command†then telnet needs to be installed. you can skip this andgo directly to connecting with the client if you wish, and then come back to run thistest if you have trouble. click the windows “start†button, then click “controlpanelâ€. on the control panel window, click “programsâ€. in the “programs and featuresâ€section, click “turn windows features on or offâ€. in the windows features list, select“telnet clientâ€, and then click the “ok†button. if prompted reboot the computer. inthe windows command prompt we need to enter the command in the following format “telnetwanip portâ€. at the command prompt we will
type “telnet wanip 10011â€. if it is successfulyou should see “welcome to the teamspeak 3 serverquery interfaceâ€. type in “quitâ€and press enter to close the connection. if the port is not forwarding from your routerto your computer correctly you will get the message “could not open connection to hostâ€.if you try port 9987 it will show as not open, but that is normal. assuming you set up eachof the port forwarding rules the same it should work. if you try port 30033 it will show ablinking cursor if it is open. now the teamspeak client we used to connect to the server hasthe privilege key saved for the serveradmin account. if we try to connect it will alwaysuse this key and not prompt for a password on connecting. i installed another instanceof the teamspeak client to show you what happens
when you try to connect with a regular useraccount. we will open the clean teamspeak client. click the “connectionsâ€menu, andthen select “connectâ€. for the “server address†this time we will enter the “wanip†we got earlier. by default it will connect to the default port of 9987. if you enterthe wanip:portnumber, it will connect to whatever port you enter after the colon. enter a nickname.i’ll enter “jagtutorialsâ€. click the “connect†button. on the “passwordâ€window, enter the password, which in this case is password, and click the “ok†button.if we right, click on the channel and select “edit channelâ€, we can see that all ofthe options are greyed out so regular users can’t change settings. this is just an example, they can’t change any of
the server settings. now the final step isnot necessary. when you restart your computer the teamspeak server will not start back up.that means that if it reboots for whatever reason, you will have to start it manually.i prefer to have it automatically start with windows for when i’m not around my computer.right-click on the “teamspeak server†shortcut on the desktop, and select “createshortcutâ€. it will create a new shortcut named “teamspeak server (2)â€. right-clickon this shortcut ,and select “cutâ€. now click the windows “start†button, then“all programsâ€. scroll down to “startupâ€. notice the folder is empty. right-click andselect “open all usersâ€. right-click in the folder that opens and select “pasteâ€.now if we click back on the windows “startâ€
button again, “all programsâ€, under “startupâ€we now have “windows task managerâ€. this should give you a good understanding of howto download and install the teamspeak client and server, connect to the server and completethe initial setup, create new privilege keys, create new channels, and setup the routerto properly forward the teamspeak traffic to your server.
